i am a human being & a musician.
maybe not always in this order.
i play trombone, guitar & sitar (vilayat khan style, who by the way had a lot in common with paco de lucia and always turns over in his grave when i play).
i compose & produce songs, have a recording studio in duesseldorf and three and a half times a year i even write lyrics.
thanks to lana, i can play the russian children’s song „häschen, tanz!“ two-handed on the piano, and that’s just as expandable as my playing on the bansuri (i hope wolfgang doesn’t get to read this here, not to mention julia or hariprasad chaurasia, who you should check out on spotify…).
at least i begin to like my playing sitar and bansuri.
the westdeutsche zeitung once wrote about me „marcus scheltinga plays probably the blackest trombone in germany“.
but in fact i never tried to paint my „earl williams model four“. that belongs to the realm of fables, it is and remains sterling silver.

reviews of my production for my friend frank
„the pieces in which kirchner and zoomachine plus guest soloists make you forget the closeness to joe zawinul or weather report show the unusual mixture of funky, rock-jazz fusion sounds with ethnic and world music: when, for example, electronics, loops and samples break down the boundaries between the genres, when singers from all over the world such as iva buric zalac or saylee tawalkar add originality and authenticity, when the band zoomachine, featuring various german musicians, concentrates on groove and sound, then kirchner’s „Panic In The Peanut Gallery“ sounds completely convincing. „
(MARTIN LAURENTIUS, Jazz thing)
„the label warns even before the first listen: „zoomachine is not easy listening… not music to relax to or for the background.“ so: fasten your seatbelts, put the backrest upright and off you go. and indeed the music of zoomachine is sometimes confusing, even frightening, but appealing and always with a driving groove. by the way, the saxophone is played by herbert grönemeyer saxophonist frank kirchner. and as the bochum native once sang? she only likes music when it’s loud! zoomachine is definitely one of them.“
(HÄ, clarino.print Wind Music International)
„elsewhere, one has to agree with jazzthing, one might draw comparisons to weather report or joe zawinul. but zoomachine need not fear this comparison at all, because they always succeed in integrating their own elements into their sound, they play skilfully with elements of world music and do not shy away from the closeness to king crimson (especially the current line-up). bass foundations like in „The Launch“, combined with driving, unusual rhythms and sitar are rarely so intoxicating, rooted in jazzy krautrock (embryo – does anyone still know them?) and yet are completely their own.“
